Targeted phage interrupts gut–kidney translocation of EAEC in diabetic kidney disease (IMAGE)
Caption
The graphical abstract summarizes a proposed disease-aggravating pathway in DKD: intestinal enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) expands, crosses a compromised gut barrier, reaches the kidney and aggravates renal injury. Oral treatment with the EAEC-specific bacteriophage EAWsc9 reduces EAEC burden and gut–kidney bacterial translocation and alleviates renal injury in diabetic mice.
