Origami-inspired Seaweed OAS for scalable open-ocean carbon sequestration. This graphical abstract summarizes the Seaweed Origami-inspired Aquaculture System (Seaweed OAS). The origami-inspired shell folds from flat panels into a locked, dodecahedron-like module with an origami surface, nutrient space, buoyancy ball, and connection module. Simulation results show that under a 2.0 m s⁻¹ current, the suitable growth volume is 17 times that of a spherical reference. Global suitability mapping identifies 10,335 million hectares (Mha) of potential deployment area. Seaweed cultivation takes up carbon dioxide (CO₂) and releases oxygen (O₂); after growth, biomass can be harvested and recycled (Path I) or sunk to the deep ocean for long-term carbon storage (Path II).
