Phase-transition-regulated microstructure, mechanical properties and crack-toughening behavior of multiphase silicon nitride ceramics (IMAGE)
Caption
The multiphase silicon nitride ceramic is designed through phase-transition regulation, enabling a homogeneous distribution of α-, β-, and γ-Si3N4 phases and the integration of their distinct mechanical advantages. The obtained ceramic combines the high hardness of γ-Si3N4 with the crack-toughening capability of β-Si3N4, achieving an excellent balance between hardness and fracture toughness. The phase-transition-regulated multiphase microstructure promotes crack deflection, bridging, arrest, and reinitiation, effectively mitigating crack propagation and contributing to the enhanced mechanical performance.
