AI maps not only where steel bridge corrosion occurs, but also what pattern it takes (IMAGE)
Caption
The two-level AI framework analyzes steel bridge inspection images to provide complementary information about visible corrosion. Level 1 maps where corrosion is present and estimates its coverage, while Level 2 classifies visible corrosion into four inspection-oriented patterns: Uniform, Crevice, Underfilm, and Other Localized corrosion. Together, these outputs can help inspectors identify areas that may require closer examination and support more structured field verification and reporting. The system is designed to assist human inspectors and engineers, rather than independently determine structural safety or maintenance decisions.
