Figure | Micro-3D-printed endoscope-tip optics to combine illumination and microscopy in a single device. A new endoscope architecture allows to combine illumination and microscopic imaging with a single device with sub-mm diameter. A micro-3D-printed diffractive optical element creates a ring-illumination pattern at the endoscope back-end. At the endoscope front-end, a micro-3D-printed optical system transfers the ring-shaped illumination cone to the sample, while a central multi-lens objective systems allows imaging with micro-scale resolution. Because the optical system is hermetically sealed, it can be applied in dry environments and in liquid immersion.
