Epigenetic mechanisms act across the life course, linking development, cell fate, tissue homeostasis, aging, disease and therapeutic translation. (IMAGE)

Schematic overview of epigenetic mechanisms across the life course. DNA methylation, histone modifications, chromatin remodeling, three-dimensional genome organization and non-coding RNAs coordinate gene regulation during development, cell-fate transitions, tissue homeostasis, aging and disease. These mechanisms also provide a foundation for translational applications, including biomarkers, epigenetic therapeutics, epigenome editing, and broader applications in crop improvement and livestock breeding.
