Fighting lung disease (IMAGE)
Caption
Yassine Sassi (standing), associate professor at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, and Aymen Halouani, a postdoctoral associate, were part of an international research team that blocked a naturally occurring molecule to reverse pulmonary arterial hypertension in preclinical models. The findings could point to a new treatment approach for the rare and often fatal disease, in which the small arteries carrying blood from the heart to the lungs become narrow and stiff.
