Microscope images of four of the single-celled organisms whose chromatin was profiled in the study, clockwise from top left: the chytrid fungus Spizellomyces punctatus, the soil amoeba Acanthamoeba castellanii; the freshwater amoeba Naegleria gruberi and the ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila. Many of the species in the study had never had their chromatin mapped before.
