Figure | Working principle and experimental demonstration of MANTIS. a, Schematic of MANTIS, a computational fluorescence microscopy system that combines a learned meta optic with neural reconstruction. Fluorescence from the specimen is collected by the microscope, passes through a 4f relay system and a fabricated titanium dioxide meta optic, and is recorded by the detector for computational reconstruction. Scanning electron microscope images of the fabricated meta optic are shown in the inset. b, Representative images acquired with a conventional microscope from mouse kidney sections and MDCK II spheroids, together with enlarged views of selected regions. c, Corresponding images reconstructed with MANTIS. Compared with the conventional microscope, MANTIS preserves sharper structural detail and improved contrast in thick biological specimens, including tissue sections and three dimensional spheroids.
