The influence of terminal groups endows MXenes with diverse physical properties and application scenarios.

Due to thermodynamic instability, MXene materials inevitably possess surface terminal groups, which significantly influence their electrical, optical, mechanical, and thermal properties. By tailoring the composition of these terminal groups, specialized MXenes can be engineered for diverse application conditions.
