Bioinspired adhesion and friction materials or devices in harsh environments (IMAGE)
Caption
A variety of animals provide the inspiration for adhesion and friction materials or devices that can be used in harsh environments. These adhesion and friction materials or devices are used in medical patches, wearable electronics, switchable grippers, and soft robotics. Current research focuses mostly on a single environment or single performance for these materials, lacking a systematic framework across scales, media, and disciplines. This paper proposes a framework that overcomes these barriers by creating highly adaptable, multifunctional systems for bioinspired adhesion and friction materials.
