A New Kind of Cold Sensor (IMAGE)
Caption
Lipids control when the channel turns on. A structural overview (left) and zoom-in (center) highlight a key interaction site at the membrane interface. The color scale (right) shows the temperature range over which the channel becomes active under different lipid conditions. Changing the lipid composition shifts this range, showing that lipids tune the channel’s temperature response. Lipids: phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), cardiolipin (CL) and phosphatidylserine (PS).
