Reduced glucomannan in Arabidopsis man2 man5 double mutant (IMAGE)
Caption
Glucomannan content in the man2 man5 double mutant and the man2 man5 man6 triple mutant was compared with that in wild-type (WT) Arabidopsis. The man2 man5 double mutant, which lacks atypical mannanases, showed a drastic decrease in glucomannan in the cell wall of the inflorescence stem (upper panel). Both the double and triple mutants also exhibited reduced mannose levels in the cell wall, which is largely derived from glucomannan (lower panel). These results indicate the involvement of these atypical mannanases in glucomannan synthesis.
