Pulmonary infection patterns in immunocompromised ICU patients (IMAGE)
Caption
This study analyzed lung infections in immunocompromised patients admitted to the ICU and explored how different levels of CD4⁺T-cell depletion are associated with pathogen distribution and respiratory microbiome characteristics. Using metagenomic next-generation sequencing, researchers identified key pathogens—including bacterial, viral, and fungal species—and found that fungal infections were more common in patients with severe CD4⁺T-cell depletion. The findings help improve understanding of infection patterns in critically ill immunosuppressed patients and may support more accurate diagnosis and treatment strategies.
