Figure | Nano-ridge surface emitting laser on silicon. a) Artistic rendering of the proposed nano-ridge surface emitting laser (NRSEL) arrays. b) Scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of the cross section of a cleaved array of nano-ridges. c) Real-space images of a NRSEL with cavity size of 25 µm under optical pumping above the lasing threshold. The emission is entirely localized within the cavity, with a clear reflection observed at the interface between the cavity and the side mirrors.
