Histological characteristics of normal testes with various spermatogenic cells within the seminiferous tubules (IMAGE)
Caption
Histological examination of the testis in the normal group reveals various types of spermatogenic cells within the seminiferous tubules. The different cell types include the following: Sg: Spermatogonium (the small cells located close to the basal lamina); Ps: Primary spermatocyte (the largest cells among the spermatogenic cells); Sp: Spermatid (the final form of spermatogenic cells); Sz: Spermatozoa or sperm cells (found in the center of seminiferous tubules, these cells have a round or cylindrical nucleus, short neck, and thin, motile tail); S: Sertoli cells (a type of supportive or “nurse” cells); and L: Leydig cells (the interstitial cells of the testes).
