Mechanism overview of butyrate-mediated IgA production and mucosal protection

Butyrate enhances Tfh cell function, promoting B cell–driven IgA antibody production and strengthening mucosal immune defense against intestinal pathogens such as Salmonella. In summary, the pathway “gut microbiota → butyrate → Tfh cells → IgA antibody production → pathogen protection” defines a microbiota–metabolite–immune axis that drives enhanced mucosal immunity and vaccine efficacy.
