Electrowetting enables ion infiltration and capacitance boost. (IMAGE)
Caption
Electrowetting enables ion infiltration and capacitance boost. Applied bias triggers electrowetting, allowing electrolyte to penetrate nanopores that remain closed under neutral conditions. This expands the effective capacitive surface area and forms a Stern-layer–dominated electric double layer, resulting in higher capacitance—particularly in mesopores with multivalent ions such as MgSO₄.
