Tetrahedral-site W⁶⁺ dopants enable long-range structural stabilization in li-rich cathodes. (IMAGE)
Caption
This schematic illustrates how trace W⁶⁺ dopants occupying tetrahedral sites in lithium-rich layered oxides generate long-range Coulomb repulsion that suppresses transition-metal migration and oxygen release. Unlike the undoped structure, which undergoes cation disordering and O₂ formation, the W-doped cathode maintains ordered layers and structural integrity across a ~2 nm region, enabling significantly improved cycling stability and reduced voltage decay.
