Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President, Morningside Professor of Life Science, and Director of SKLNSD, as well as Center Director of HKCeND (center, front row), and her research team reveal that the TREM2 H157Y genetic variant is associated with an increased risk of AD, comparable to that of the strongest known AD risk gene, APOE-ε4. This variant is also linked to more rapid clinical progression and more severe neurodegeneration.
