Study Shows How AI Could Help Pathologists Match Cancer Patients to the Right Treatments—Faster and More Efficiently (IMAGE)

In the current workflow for lung cancer patients, rapid genetic tests are often performed first. These tests use limited tumor tissue and leave about one in four patients without enough material for next-generation sequencing, which is critical for guiding treatment. With the AI model, EGFR mutations can be flagged once slides are digitized. Based on the model’s results, some rapid tests may be avoided, preserving tissue for more comprehensive sequencing.
