DNA structure when Nanog is in an inactive and active states (IMAGE)
Caption
When the Nanog gene (green region) is inactive, one of the three enhancer regions is spatially far away. When active, the same enhancer region makes close contact, interacting with the other enhancers and promoter. RNA is transcribed and specific proteins accumulate in the area around the gene.
