Attosecond X-ray pulses at megahertz repetition rates (IMAGE)
Caption
Scientists at European XFEL and DESY produce high-power attosecond X-ray pulses at megahertz repetition rates. With the help of special beam optics relativistic electrons (blue cloud) are strongly compressed (bright line in the centre). This leads to a very bright, high-power X-ray pulse on the attosecond timescale.
