Chip morphology and stability of the chip formation

The undeformed chip section during the turning process was described through a schematic diagram. Chip morphology was examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The chip geometry characteristics under different corner radii were analyzed. The stability of the serrated chip formation was quantitatively analyzed using three-parameter Weibull statistical analysis.
