Microwave absorbing and infrared stealth properties of 8YSZ coating (IMAGE)
Caption
The 8YSZ coating was prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying technology with the feedstock powder. Through a waveguide method and infrared emissivity measurement instrument, the microwave absorbing and infrared emissivity of 8YSZ coating were characterized. Intriguingly, 8YSZ coating presents superior microwave absorbing properties at 900 ℃ including strong absorption (minimum reflection loss (RLmin): -50 dB), thin thickness (1.5 mm) and better effective absorption bandwidth (EAB: 2 GHz). Meanwhile, it maintains low infrared emissivity (ε<0.3) in the infrared bands of 3-5 μm compared with traditional materials. In contrast to conventional strategy that microwave-infrared compatible stealth materials are explored in the pool of “complex” multiple-component or metamaterial, this work reveals an avenue to look into materials with simple composition realizing microwave-infrared compatible stealth simultaneously, which would be of both scientific and technological significance in the fields of stealth technology. Meanwhile, the present work is opened up the new application of 8YSZ coating in the field of high-temperature stealth technology.
