Firebrand Kinematics Experiment (IMAGE) University of California - Irvine Caption To study the physics of firebrands – embers generated by wildfires – UC Irvine researchers set up a unique experiment at the UC Berkeley Blodgett Forest Research Station in California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range. They placed sheet pans of water around the fire to catch embers and used high-speed photography instruments to track the speed and direction of the burning particles. The results can help fire modelers to more accurately predict the severity and spread of wildfires. Credit Alec Petersen / UC Irvine Usage Restrictions No restrictions.
