Hydrogen production requires a lot of space: unused areas must be available for generating electricity from wind or solar power as well as for electrolysis – the actual production process, which also uses large quantities of water. A recent study by PSI led by first author Tom Terlouw identifies the best regions for producing hydrogen to meet the high demand expected in the future.
