Laut UFZ-Waldzustandsmonitor waren im Harz im Jahr 2022 52 Prozent des Waldes insgesamt und insbesondere 76 Prozent der Nadelbäume schwer geschädigt. Im Jahr 2017 waren es lediglich 9 Prozent des Waldes und 8 Prozent der Nadelbäume.
