Experimenting with laser wakefield acceleration
DOE/Brookhaven National Laboratory
An intern at Brookhaven Lab experiments with laser wakefield acceleration -- often called the 'tabletop accelerator.' The goal is to use lasers to accelerate particles to greater energies over shorter distances than can be done with traditional accelerators -- and therefore in a much smaller space.

A fresh pair of eyes on an old nuclear physics problem
DOE/Brookhaven National Laboratory
As an intern for the National Nuclear Data Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Pedro Rodríguez is working to resolve a 70-year-old problem in nuclear physics. He and his mentor are figuring out a way to simplify one of the steps for ensuring nuclear reactors can be modeled correctly.

Meet the Intern Using Quantum Computing to Study the Early Universe
DOE/Brookhaven National Laboratory
Juliette Stecenko, an intern at Brookhaven National Laboratory, is using modern supercomputers and quantum computing platforms to perform astronomy simulations that may help us better understand where we came from.

EIC R&D yields energy-saving accelerator innovations
DOE/Brookhaven National Laboratory
An energy-recovery linear accelerator that scientists explored for accelerating particles in an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) could form the foundation of an energy-saving design for a future high-energy electron-positron collider.
